On September 25th, EuroGuadiana (Guadiana River Eurocity) will celebrate European Cooperation Day, EC Day, with a symbolic act.
It will consist of planting three characteristic trees of each municipality (almond, carob, and strawberry tree) in a representative Eurocity´s spot.
The Eurocity joins one Spanish municipality (Ayamonte) and two Portuguese ones (Vila real de Santo António and Castro Marim). It is an example of how cross-border cooperation can improve people’s lives.
Thus, it wants to celebrate European Cooperation day by drawing attention to the values of inclusion and cooperation.
The Euroguadiana Eurocity was severely affected by the temporary closure of borders during the hardest moments of the COVID19 pandemic.
Even though, and despite the confinement, it continued to work intensely on its Tourism Strategy. Its objectives and initiatives prioritize safe and inclusive tourism.
The EuroGuadiana2020 project is co-financed by the ERDF through the Interreg Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020.
Other Eurocities co-financed through the Interreg Spain-Portugal will also carry out tree planting events for EC Day. These are, for example, EUROBEC, Cerveira-Tomiño and Chaves-Verin.
