EUROBEC Eurocity will also celebrate EC Day with a tree planting act. For this occasion, it will join other Eurocities, that will also plant trees alongside the Spain-Portugal border.
The Eurocity of Badajoz, Elvas, Campomaior (EUROBEC) is the union of one Spanish city and two Portuguese ones.
Badajoz will celebrate with the planting of six trees in the Rivillas Park on Friday, September 25 at 10:30 am to celebrate European Cooperation Day.
The plantings will honor cross-border cooperation and each tree is dedicated to Badajoz, Elvas, Campo Maior, Spain, Portugal, and the European Union.
Thus, the director of the Interreg Spain-Portugal Joint Secretariat will plant the European Union tree.
Moreover, EUROBEC will join other Interreg Spain-Portugal – funded Eurocities will also carry out tree planting on the same day. These are, for example, EuroGuadiana, Cerveira-Tomiño, and Chaves-Verin
The Eurocity EUROBEC consolidates cooperation, a process that has been taking place for years amongst neighbors on both sides of the border.
To do this, EUROBEC organizes actions such as participatory citizen processes, cultural events, student exchanges, and many more.
In 2019, EUROBEC celebrated EC Day with sports and environmental school activities with young kids from its 3 cities in Elvas, Portugal. These included a climate-emergency workshop hosted by the Spanish-Portuguese Red Cross. Kids learned about global warming, but also about many other issues. Some examples are “the 3 R” (reduce, reuse, recycle), how to act in a natural disaster, RCP maneuvers, etc.
The joint POCTEP secretariat also participated in these activities.
Risks prevention and of natural resources have always been areas of vital importance in POCTEP. So much so, this is the priority axis in which more budget is allocated, with 84 projects so far.
